Storywalker: Stories from Qingtian to Usera (2018-2019)

I was part of the team for this project, which combines documentary and community theatre with new technologies. It revolves around the Chinese community of Usera, aiming to bring to light the human stories hidden behind a neighborhood in constant flux and transformation. It primarily captures the stories of those who decided to leave their country and become residents of Usera.

We discovered the life they left behind in China and how it continues without them, creating a mirror image of everyday life in two parts of the world thousands of miles apart. We also learned the stories of several generations, from their ancestral origins in China to the youngest members born in the neighborhood.

First, it was investigated and documented through interviews in the Usera neighborhood and also in China to create an initial playwriting project. Secondly, a series of community theater workshops were held to bring Chinese and non-Chinese residents closer to the creative process in the neighborhood. As a result of both stages, a series of audio fictions were produced within a web-based technological platform, in which professional actors and actresses and residents participated.
